MA, CAGS, Psychotherapist
(They/Them)
I come into this work having spent more than two decades supporting therapeutic environments servicing individuals and groups with some of the most significant mental health and social/emotional challenges that we humans can demonstrate. My incredible experiences have helped to shape a trauma informed, whole-person, client centered approach to building therapeutic alliances. The relational or communal space between person and practitioner is seen as paramount in benefitting from experiences with treatment in psychotherapy.
I use a humanistic approach to this process holding firm the belief that people are experts in their own lives and are seeking deeper peace and balance. Together, we will create a space where vulnerability can thrive unencumbered and exploration is welcomed and safe. We will unpack narratives in a process of identifying barriers to growth and releasing hidden strengths not being accessed for a multitude of possible reasons. We will identify areas where a person has agency over change and how best to develop more adaptive patterns of thinking, feeling, and responding to our worlds.
A Cognitive Behavioral Therapy approach will assist with identifying areas of possible growth and goal setting in the early stages of treatment. CBT is also useful in new skill acquisition as are aspects of Dialectical Behavioral Therapy. Mindfulness, if relatable to you, is a skill that can also be practiced throughout the shared experience and co-regulation is seen as an active ingredient in therapeutic safety and growth. Throughout my career, colleagues and past clients reflect that my calm and emotionally regulated way of being with others helps significantly to set the stage for their own self-regulation processes to take root.
My areas of specialty include, but are not limited to, treatment of generalized anxiety, PTSD, ADHD, mood dysregulations/ disorders, and substance abuse disorders. Folks identifying as LGBTQIA+ hold a special place for me as well. My own relationship to coming out in full has given rise to a well rounded and intimate understanding of both privilege and the existential struggles people in the Queer Communities face in our world on a daily basis. To all of my people in the Queer Communities: I would be honored to be in a supportive space with you.
